Wouldn't it be nice if the Pentagon grew in its focus for ways of responsibility for safety of this country, away from its ability to destroy, to expand abilities to create that which fulfills the needs of all concerned (here and abroad, as applicable) and thus cancels the need for wars, achieving it that way? Surely more efficient way of defense, and makes a whole lot less mess. Greatly expanding its functions of the type of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Although it still would not solve the problem of those people who are Power Driven Nuts, that occasionally crop up and "want to rule the world." Yuk. Although team sports games like football enable much of this expression of their bully compulsion to be relatively harmlessly expended, it also is a breeding ground for them too; and so is at risk of producing some with overgrowth of the craving to rule, ending up with the rest of us enduring the havoc they raise.

America was partly based on the principle of balancing power to maintain overall responsibility for the country's actions.

There are surely far more wholesome forms of exciting adventures for people. Build and maintain Space-Based Solar Power stations, anyone?
